Joy to the World

Preparing for the class I teach on Monday. I will be teaching how to color your tangles with colored pencil.
I did "Joy" using Prismacolor and Low Odour Thinner to blend.
Fun way to give your tangles color and highlights.
I don't often color my tangles but the when I saw all the fuss on the web about 'Gems' I just had to give it a try.

Here are a few of my first gems.

You can see the tools I used to make my gems.

How to Draw UDUDU

I was asked to do one of my tangle patterns in a Facebook group I belong to.  Tangled & Journaled, Too! We did 24 days of tangles and I can't tell you what fun it was.  A different artist did a tangle or two ever day for the past 23 days.  We have two move days to go before the it all ends. One of the tangles that was presented was UDUDU.  I loved this one had to do a video.

Black and White with shading.

Colored tangle using colored pencil and paint thinner.

My black and white tile with the back ground colored in.
Enjoy the video.

Preform Anonymous Acts of Kindness

I love it when I see people helping others.
When trouble hits it seams that is when we wait to do a kind act,
Let's not wait, do it now.

This is just a small reminder that what we do to others comes back to us 10 fold.
Lets make it "Kindness".

Anonymously preform acts of kindness,
expecting nothing in return,
not even a thank you.
The worlds all creating Spirit responds to acts of kindness with the response:

How may I be kind to you?

Post your tangle version of this Typography on the facebook group.
You could make this a small card and leave it with your act of kindness.
No name remember Anonymous!

Peace on the Earth Goodwill to Men

Peace on the earth goodwill to men.
Luke 2:14
May your Holidays be full of peace.
I just got the tangle a day calendar by Carole Ohl.  I love her work she has a style that I just can't resist. In the back of the book was the tangle word PEACE.  I loved it, and I had to tangle it.
This is what came from that.

The template is very light so you can have the word "Peace" in the negative space.

How to draw Zentangle Pattern Sand Swirl and Aura-Leah

This week I chose two very different tangles that turned out to be so much fun to draw.
First was Aura-Leah by Carla de Preez.
You may have seen my earlier post with the  this Typography in it.
You see three of the tangles I did in class.

Aura-Leah is so soft and curvy and it just flows from the pen.
I love it in the above ZIA.
Below you see a the tile I did in the video.
Here is the video Aura-Leah

Second... Sand Swirl,
this one could turn into a go to tangle for me.
Lots of movement and just plain fun.
I have used it on lots of stuff this week.

Here is the video for Sand Swirl.

Hope you enjoy this weeks tangles.

How to draw Zentangle Pattern, Biscus and Showgirl

Biscus is a beautiful tangle by Vicki Bassett CZT.  I loved doing Vicki's tangle in my class this week at the library.  When I first showed the tile I got that wonderful gasp you sometimes get with stunning tangles.

I did two of Vicki's tangles Biscus and Showgirl both were a big hit.  I had 10 students in Mondays class and 21 in Tuesdays class.  Classes are growing each week.

I was asked, " What do you do with all the tiles you draw"? To answer that question I had to say they are in my studio in a cupboard. I guess I should frame them, that is on the list of things to do.

Here is three tiles of the tangle Biscus, The one you see on the video and two others.  I did two on gray paper using black Micron by Sakura 01 and white Gelly Roll also by Sakura.  I love to tangle on gray paper.  You can shade with white or gray, and the Gelly Roll just makes the tangle pop.

What do you think?

Biscus done on gray paper with white Gelly Roll pen and chalk highlights.

Hope you enjoyed the video!

Below you see Showgirl also by Vicki Bassett.  Fun tangle, I did not do a string on the tangle so I shaded it all the way to the edge.

This is the finished tile from the video below.

 Hope you enjoyed the video.

Tangle Heart, Siena Wrap or Nancy's Italiano. November week Three

What every you call it,
 but I  call it "Beautiful".

I was looking for somthing to teach at my weekly Zentangle art class and came across this bog post of Zentangle, from back in February 2013,

I knew at first glance this was going to be in this weeks lesson. The tangle was inspired by Nancy Sampson. She had taken a trip to Italy and sent home a wonder photo of the Siena Cathedrel, to here good friend Maria Thomas.  Well of course Maria had to tangle the wonderful architecture being so unique and eye-catching.

When you watch the video of the Siena Cathedrel you will see why.

Fun Video right!

Well here is my tangle.  With a video to show you how to draw this pattern. Sorry it ends so funny I was called off to make Mac N Cheese for my family.  When I returned to finish the video I forgot to turn on the camera.  I just started to draw.
The video ends with the call for Mac N Cheese.

Hope you can shade it ok and I have added Footlite tangle by Carole Ohl.

Enjoy!

With a few more just for fun.

How to draw Arukas by Molly Hollibaugh CZT

I told my students at the Zentangle Art Class I would place this video on my
blog with Molly drawing Arukas,  Molly is wonderful. What a great tangle.

Here are a few of my tangle tiles using Arukas.
After I looked at my tangles I did in 2014 I decided that they were not so bad.  I like the smaller circle to start.

I did not start with a circle here. I did the spokes first I love the look.

Here I did a double band with each rotation.
they do have a star look don't they.

How to Draw Star Tangles November week Two Lesson.

This week in my Library Zentangle Art Class we learned how to draw tangles that looked like stars. Ahh!, Ahh! with Indy-Rella, Joy with Indy- Rella, Afterglo, and Hurry.

I love the look of Hurry done like a star. the one below is done on gray paper with white chalk used to shade the tangle.

Afterglo by Carol Ohl is one of my favoret start type tangles, when it is done as a mono tangle..

Below you will see Joy done with Indy-Rella what fun thanks Joyce Block for this tangle.

I am now doing video of the tangles I do each week at my Zentangle Art Class.  Here is the video for this week.  Please let me know what you think of my video, and if you like it subscribe to my YouTube channel.

How to draw Nymph by Melinda Barlow

This is my second video and tangle pattern.  Nymph was the first tangle pattern I developed,  April 14, 2014, I can't believe it has been that long.  I love this tangle it is my go to tangle.
Here are a few samples of Nymph plus a video.

I don't like making my tangles all the way to the edge of the tile.  I like to do dots and borders but for some reason I did this one with out the dots and borders. I do know I did the grid with a pencel not a pen.

This one I did on tan paper with white gelly roll pen by Sakura. Love the look of the white on tan.
This is the tile I did in the video.
If you look close you will see the date on the tile, August 2014.

Two tone tile with brown and black Sakura pens. .01.

After you watch the video subscribe to my channel for more videos.
I teach every week and I have plans to post video of our class.

Oh! Well Tangle Pattern Video

After teaching Zentangle for over 5 years I thought it was time to do a video of one of my tangle patterns.  Oh! Well is a pattern developed from watching Helen Williams video Well.  After watching I was drawing on my own and I could not remember all the steps of her tangle so a new tangle was born. "Oh! Well.

Spoil Your Rain

Sometimes we get it a bad moods.  We find all the negative we can in things.  Life is just to short to not find the good in everything.

Thoughts become Things

When we think it we become it! Don't let the sunshine spoil your rain.

Find the bright spot in everything you do.

Enjoy the new template.
I had a great time teaching this class today.

Be the MOM

I wanted to have this post done long before now.  I have been on Vacation to Washington DC. for the past week.  Loving every day of it. We visited lots of fun places and walk our feet right off.  I hope to go back soon, you just can't see all there is to see there in just one week.

I hoped to work on this on the plane but forgot to take it with me.
Enjoy!
Just finished this morning.

You will find the template for this under the template tab.

Live, Love, Laugh Typography meets Zentangle

Here is a first for me, adding color to a Zentangle inspired art.  I am going on Vacation this week and leaving my Zentangle Class to a good friend and talented artist.  LeeAnn Denzer, she will be teaching how to use colored pencil with your tangles.  I wish I could be there,
(no not really I need this vacation).
But this is the template I am giving them to tangle on.
Last week we learned some fun tangle and I think they will be happy to see how they can use them in a ZIA.
Tangle used in this project are:  Dyon, Poke Leaf, Beadlines, Diva Dance, Mumsy, Zinger

Tangle Pattern "Wheelcog"

I have been working on tangles to teach my class for Tuesday.
I decided I needed to ramp up my classes, I teach every week, by adding tangles not that well known.

So I looked at the list of tangles in my CZT Bible.

That is what I call the book of tangles I received when I became certified back in October of 2010.  Yahoo! for the CZT#4.

I ran across the tangle Cogwheel in name only had to hunt for the step-outs.  Found the tangle, but I did not like it much, but I love the name. The tangle was just too simple, crazy right.
In my hunt I came across this tangle by Laura Harms I am the Diva called Somnee, it is a lot like the tangle Tink by Carol Ohl. I just needed a tangle that would go with this one so here is my tangle I call "Wheelcog"
You will see two different finished ideas in the tangles below, and I love it with Laura's tangle Somnee.
