Creating a Toy Box

I pray you....your play needs no excuse.
Never excuse.
                    --William Shakespeare

Saturday I went shopping for some more toys. Art toys, and I created a new toy box.  I have not done Calligraphy for many years and with my new found love for Zentangle.  I decided it was time to pick up the pen and try my hand at the art of Calligraphy again.  I love the pointed pen and the sound it makes when it moves across the paper.   When I watched Maria do Betweed on her blog it brought back fond memories of using the pointed pen. At the first of the video you can here the pen scratch on the paper.  So cool!

I now have a toy box filled with not only Zentangle supplies but also my old toys made new.  Calligraphy pens and ink, now a new look for my art.

"Play is the exultation of the possible," Martin Buber reminds us, Now get your toys and go out and play!

  1. Zentangle has rekindled my love for calligraphy too. I think it has something to do with the pen on paper bringing back good memories of the moter skills I used as a graphic artist and calligrapher. Funny how they go hand in hand. I have seen so many calligraphers doing zentangle too

  2. Many years ago I was the official calligrapher for the city where I live - seeing Maria's work certainly re-lit the spark!
